Boeing confirms aircraft deal with Iran

June 21, 2016

Boeing has signed an agreement with Iran Air for passenger aircraft, a Boeing spokesman confirmed to ATW.

“Boeing confirms the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Iran Air expressing the airline’s intent to purchase Boeing commercial passenger airplanes. Boeing negotiated the MOA under authorizations from the US government following a determination that Iran had met its obligations under the nuclear accord reached last summer. Boeing will continue to follow the lead of the US government with regards to working with Iran’s airlines, and any and all contracts with Iran’s airlines will be contingent upon US government approval. We are not providing further details at this time.”

In February, Boeing was given permission by the US government to talk to Iranian airlines, as the Southwest Asian nation emerges from sanctions imposed as part of international opposition to its attempts to develop its nuclear technology.
